Re-use, Recycle and play GIGANTIC Games

Does your place of work hold ‘family’ days? Do they schedule company-wide events or office parties that you’re running out of ideas for? Why not take this opportunity to call in our staff here at Kids’ People to help organise/run a branch, office or even company-wide fun day?

A picture says a thousand words…

We all know our offices and places of work are FULL of clutter that could definitely be reorganised and mostly recycled. Join the movement to save the planet and think of some creative ways in which you can declutter those sections of the workspace where nobody dare venture any longer and bring in the little ones to help!

Think of three things that your company stands for, be they part of your mission statement, goals you want to achieve or what makes you tick, and vote on them. Once chosen, send them home with your co-workers for their children to design a simple, clear picture or symbol to represent one of these messages and your office can then vote on the top three!

Once this is done, you can hold a day whereby people can bring their families in to complete tasks and help de-clutter, separating paper and card from plastic and material in the morning. The afternoon can be a giant crafts day, where colleagues, families and friends can help create the murals on whatever wall/in whatever empty space you wish that needs brightening up! Any left over materials can be further recycled in the designated bins. By the end of the week you will have de-cluttered the workspace and run a fun, family friendly event all whilst helping out our planet! Winner!

GIANT TREASURE HUNT

Everyone loves treasure, especially PIRATES! Why not use this theme for your next event day where you take a look at pollution in the ocean and as families venture around the office collecting rubbish that you need to clear/recycle you can hold quizzes and riddles at each station to test their ocean pollution knowledge! By the end everyone will have learnt something, collected potentially harmful materials to wildlife whilst clearing up the office. Treasure and prizes can come in the form of reusable water bottles, reusable straws, tote bags/biodegradable non-plastic bags and shampoo/conditioner and shower gel bars.

P.S: You could even set up the treasure hunt as a way for colleagues and family members to collect materials that need re-using and recycling prior to the mural making event!

Spring Fun with Kids’ People !

Here at Kids’ People we were recently asked for some of our fabulous kids event staff members to work with Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP in creating a fun-filled family Easter event full of crafts, magic, face painting, cake-decorating, Easter bonnets, food and games. There may have even been one of two visits from the Easter Bunny! The event was an opportunity for staff at the firm to bring their children into the office, socialise with other families and to get stuck in to the Easter fun. Our staff got stuck in right away, being placed in charge of the craft and decorating stalls.

Cakes and Cookies

Armed with coloured icing, piping bags, chocolate chicks and edible flowers, our team set about helping young ones and their families decorate the cupcakes that the chefs at the firm had baked and prepared. Once satisfied with cupcakes piled high with icing and treats, families swiftly moved on to the cookies and biscuits that had been baked in the shape of bunnies, chicks and eggs – With many parents pleading with their young ones to ‘wrap up the treats to take home for Grandma.’

Paints, Pens and Pipe-cleaners

Once filled to the brim with sugar, the energetic children made their way over to the arts and crafts section to colour in a chick or make a fluffy egg that they were ‘sure Grandma would like better,’ (as they gleefully polished off her chocolate bunny cookie)! The four tables were beautifully laid out with paper plates, colourful pens, purple, yellow and blue tissue paper, multicoloured felt, pva glue, chick, bunny and egg shaped card to colour and decorate and hairbands to make bunny ears.

It was such a fun, vibrant day that we loved being a part of just as much as the children themselves. One of our children’s event staff members even co-created the design and build of an innovative ‘Easter Sheep’ that was requested and made out of cotton wool balls, pipe cleaners and googley eyes by one of the boys at the event! A success all round.

Activities for Kids in London!

We at Kids’ People are always looking to find new ideas for days spent with the kids! Here are some of our favourites…

Drama Queens and Kings

Explore behind the scenes of the National Theatre. During school holidays, workshops and backstage tours allow families the chance to see stages and the set and prop workshops. Prices start at £5. Opening times are: Mondays to Saturdays: 9:30am-11pm, and 12pm-6pm most Sundays throughout the year.

London City Farms

If your little rascals love animals there is no better healthy and happy day out for all the family than paying a visit to one of the many City Farms. Your little ones can become Farmers for a Day at Deen City Farm or could meet Bayleaf the Donkey whilst picking their own veg at Spitalfields City Farm. Whichever one you choose, you will have a great time, making memories and supporting local communities – maybe even catch a weekly pig race! (Hounslow Urban Farm).

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

A 250 year old botanical garden with fun for all the family. The 18-meter-high treetop walkway is a fab attraction for those brave little explorers! Where others can wiggle through tunnels and slide down giant plants at the indoor play zone. Adult admission: £13.50 – Kids go FREE! Kew Gardens opens daily at 9:30am.

Battersea Park Zoo/Adventure Playground

Battersea Park Zoo is home to small animals including otters, capuchins and chinchillas, with an interactive play area. Be a Keeper for the Day, attend Story Time Mondays or visit the animals during feeding times, which can be found on the website. Adults: £9.50, Children: £7.50, Family Tickets: £31.00

The Adventure Playground at Battersea Park is like no other; there are so many exciting places to swing, jump, crawl, climb and go exploring. The playground itself is free, and has a snack shop by the entrance, however in the summer there are rides and inflatable structures that cost £1.50 per activity. If you’re feeling really adventurous there is also a Go Ape Park on the site.

Greenwich Royal Parks and Museums

Take in the views, explore the museums and stand on the point of the Meridian line, the reference point for Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). Entrance to the National Maritime Museum and the Park is free, with the park open daily from 6am. A link to combined ticket prices for the museums is below, including attractions such as the Cutty Sark and Observatory.

Hyde Park

Not forgetting the beauty of Hyde Park! And mostly free! Swim, skate, ride a horse, or simply take a picnic to Hyde Park, London’s largest central park! Our fave is Captain Hook’s huge wooden pirate ship at the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial playground…

Here’s to fun, creativity and spontaneity now that spring is finally approaching!

Don’t forget to contact Kids’ People for any children’s event staffing requirements. We love a good party! Private and corporate event staffing and management are our forte!

Fun London travel with (or without!) your Kids

We all know that travelling around London can be costly and often time consuming; BUT it’s not boring! Here are some ideas to get you and your family out and about.

Santander Cycle Hire

Long gone are the Boris bikes…. The Santander bikes are now here! This is a great one for your teenagers! You can hire a bike from as little as £2 per 30 minutes. Simply go to any docking station with your 14+ year old and your bank card and touch the screen to get started. (One card per bike). There’s no need to book – hire a bike, ride it where you like, then return it to any docking station.

DLR Driverless Trains

What could be more exciting than being the train driver of the DLR! Get your little ones to take a seat in the front carriage of the “driverless” Dockland Light Rail train, which operates from the city to East London. Fares are charged at the same rate as regular tube journeys and children under the age of 11 travel free.

Crossing the Thames

Riding that river can be a lot of fun. It is a relaxing way to float about London and is nearly always far less busy than the tubes. If the weather is nice, some boats have a deck which you can sit on and if you get to the front, your little Pirates and Captains can play sailing the Seven Seas! (Or is it to Seven Sisters…?)

Emirates airline Cable Car!

How about gliding above the Thames in your very own cable car?! Enjoy the fantastic views of London. Kids cost £1.70. The cable car will take you from Greenwich peninsular to the Royal docks.

Get those legs moving!

And finally if you just want to use those legs, preferably tiring the little legs out along the way! You should check out these 7 super walks in London at wanderlust.co.uk. There is So much to see in slow motion in London.

Wishing you fun on your journeys!

Summer Sporty Fun in London!

Fancy taking your little one’s outside to enjoy this glorious weather and stay active whilst doing so? Then put down those iPad’s, grab your shorts and sunnies and head to these great spots in London, perfect for kids! Kids People have got you sorted for those long sunny weekends and want to help you get your kids active this Summer ?

1)

Coram Fields – ‘No adults unless accompanied by a child.’ Sounds pretty cool, eh?! Set beneath a canopy of mature trees, get on down to Coram’s Fields for something for everyone – except just adults. This beautiful park just for kids and their parents houses swings, slides and sandpits for the little ones to play on, has a Pet’s Corner full of goats, chickens and rabbits, sports pitches for your slightly older ones, and a little café for you to sit in and watch it all happen. It is open from 9am to dusk every day and there are drop-in activities to get involved with too – all for free! So, if you fancy some fun in the park without the joggers, without passers – by and full of other children to play with, then Coram’s Fields (Closest station: Russell Square) is the place for you!

2)

Granary Square Fountains – Grab a spare change of clothes, pack a towel and get your swimsuit on and head to Granary Square Fountains close to Kings Cross Station to make the most of the weather while keeping your kids active this Spring and Summer. With 1080 individually controlled water jets, this splash park is a perfect way to keep your kids cool outdoors. They start off quite mellow at 7.40 am in the morning and tend to get more boisterous as the day goes on. If you are out late, then they are something to see, as after dark, the addition of coloured lighting creates a water display that will light up their faces and make the fountains even more impressive, especially to older siblings that might have been too “cool” to join in. And as if that wasn’t enough, they can download the Granary Squirt App, and from 4 till 5pm, can actually control the fountains from their phone with up to eight friends – an incredibly cool compromise to getting your kids getting active and not being too far away from their phones.

3) Brockwell Lido – If you’re little one’s love swimming, or you want somewhere to teach them, head to Brockwell Lido nestled in the corner of Brockwell Park this Spring for a big splash! A much- loved landmark and heart of the local community, the Art Deco Grade II listed building has been extended and transformed and now offers fantastic health and fitness facilities all year round. Get your kids swimming and having fun here or at any lido’s around London – a full list can be found here: https://www.timeout.com/london/things-to-do/lidos-and-outdoor-swimming-pools-in-london

Easter Crafts!

Easter is nearly upon us here at Kids People, and for all you lovely lot too! So we thought to make your Easter even more EGG-cellent, we’ve put together some CRACKING Easter crafts to do with your little ones at home this weekend. Get making, get creative and Happy Easter to you and your little chicks. Hop to it!

Daffodils – Nothing says Easter like a Spring Daffodil, and these beautiful flowers can be made in three simple steps – easy peasy! You simply need some yellow card, painted green lolly sticks, and white or clear cupcake cases. Method: Draw a daffodil outline onto your yellow card, making sure the cupcake case can fit comfortably in the centre. Cut this out so you have your flower shape. Next, glue the cupcake case base down in the centre of your daffodil shape. When dry, turn it over and glue your green lolly stick on to the back, making sure that most of the stick comes off the card to act like the stem. Leave to dry and voila! Make as many as you want and then our top tip is to display them in a flowerpot or mini vase to brighten up any room! Beautiful!

Easter Bunny Party Hats – An easy twist on the party hat, make your own kind of Easter bonnet with these Bunny Party Hats! Let you little bunnies’ creative flair flow. You will need a classic party hat template that can be found here: http://www.invitein.org/tag/birthday-party-hat-template. Print this out and cut out the template, securing it into the classic cone shape with glue. Then it really is up to you! Use googly eyes/card/sequins whatever materials you like to make your bunny face – eyes, nose and whiskers – and be sure to glue them down securely. Draw on a smiley mouth with a permanent marker and cut slits in the side of your hat for the ears. Cut out bunny shaped ears and fold them about a ¼” up, insert them into the slits, and secure with glue or tape on the inside. Last but not least, attach twine or elastic to the inside of the hat on both sides to go underneath your little ones’ chin. It really is as simple as that! Then wear your party bonnet with pride as you go on Easter Egg hunts, or just to parade around the house. Perfect!

Pompom Easter Chicks – And last but not least, we couldn’t not have some cute little Easter chicks! So, all you need to do is grab some yellow pompom’s, some white card and an orange felt tip and you’re away! Simply Stick a large yellow pompom onto your card, and stick the smaller pompom above it, slightly off centre (this will be the body and head of your chick) Then take your felt tip and draw a little triangle beak coming off the top pompom, and two little legs coming off the bottom and there you have it! A perfect little Easter card to give to the grandparents if they are coming round on Easter Sunday.
